Our Building
(Note: to rent our building for functions, click here.)
Planning
for the structure we have built to house our church got underway in
1996. The Facilities Committee (FC) worked hard at researching and
discussing building options. After a Congregational retreat and several
Cottage Meetings in member's homes, the FC presented building options
to the Congregation on December 7, 1996. The Congregation instructed
the FC to proceed with detailed planning for a 2500-2800-square-foot
metal building. The Committee hired an architect, Richard Harkrader, to
assist with moving toward a final plan.
- The congregation formally dedicated its property on
Sunday, December 7, 1997.
- At
a Committee of the Whole meeting on June 21, 1997, the congregation
accepted the plans in principle and charged the FC and Finance
Committee to return as soon as possible with a builder-proposed
contract and a final budget. On Sunday, October 5, 1997, we decided by
consensus on the final plans, the contract with the builder, and the
capital budget.
- The contractor, New South Building
Company of Chapel Hill, worked on getting the permits for more than 5
months. Some redesign was needed to satisfy the County planners, and
they granted a permit. In May 1998, the contractor started pushing dirt
around preparatory to pouring the slab. We were finally on the way!
- In
early January 1999 we received our Certificate of Occupancy. Our first
all-church gathering was a "House Blessing" service held January 9,
1999. The Public dedication of our new church home was on May 2, 1999.
In June, the grounds around the church were seeded, and other
landscaping and stone work done.
- In August 1999, an area was prepared, and playground
equipment installed.
- In September 2005, the Memorial Garden was dedicated.
